The diplomacy and the care that the presidents should have when it comes to giving pronouncements or visits to leaders of other countries is important, since they represent the image of their countries. 1. The false Chilean flag of Sebastián Piñera

During the visit of Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, in the framework of the UN General Assembly, there was a meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump. Everything was going well, the conversations were focused on commercial issues between the two. However, in the Oval Room, and in front of the media, Piñera took out a sheet in which the Chilean flag appeared in the center of the United States flag. The first to laugh was Donald Trump, and social media users followed his example.

Many clarified that the flag shown by Piñera was not the one of the USA, because the colors are inverted and, what it is worse, is that the photo was a meme that emerged some time ago in social media.

The idea was planned by President Sebastián Piñera himself. This was confirmed by Paula Comandari, a journalist from Tele13 Radio, with sources from the Chilean newspaper La Moneda. "The idea came to him at the hotel, he saw a meme and said it seems remarkable to me, he saw it and showed it, this was not a deliberate decision by his team, it was not a communication strategy", she said.

2. The greetings of Iván Duque to the King of Spain

During the visit of the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, to Spain he had a diplomatic meeting with King Felipe VI. There, Duque shared his agenda of legality, entrepreneurship, and equity. "We talked about the historical relationship between Spain and Colombia, and how we want to strengthen it for the coming years. I think it has a great balance, and I leave with a very good endorsement and recognition of the agenda we have set for Colombians", the King of Spain told the media. However, in Colombia a specific event did not go unnoticed: Iván Duque delivered greetings from Álvaro Uribe to the King of Spain as if they two were “compadres”.

"President Uribe sends his regards, his great friend, who loves you very much, and President Pastrana also sends his regards", Duque told the king.

3. The mistakes of Nicolás Maduro

In his first political campaign for the presidency, Maduro said that Hugo Chávez appeared to him in the form of a little bird. His statements were taken as a strategy to win Chavez votes. The declarations were considered as an international shame.

In the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Bolívar's entry IGNORE INTO Caracas, Maduro publicly expressed, as reported by Semana magazine, "that through the veins of the Venezuelan people ran heroic blood of courageous and brave warriors. He added that millions (in the female and masculine form) of Venezuelans had the blood of Bolívar.

When referring to multiply art in his country, he said "as Christ multiplied penises and breads (penes y panes en español)." Then, he tried to correct his mistake, but it was already a mockery and tendency in social media.

Although the mistakes of the abovementioned presidents may be, perhaps, a political or a communicational strategy that seek to divert attention from the problems that affect their nations, they achieved one goal: to send a badl image of the countries they are representing.
