This year, Santa Monica, California, was the venue for the forty-fourth edition of the People's Choice Awards, where the favorites of the entire entertainment industry are chosen. The fans are in charge of choosing who are the best in cinema, television, music and others.

The highlights

During the two hours of the award ceremony, several of the winners took advantage of their time on the stand to give their support to the firefighters who work to put an end to the fires that plague the state of California.

Mila Kunis, who took the Comedy Movie award for The Spy Who Dumped Me, said: "I ask people to take a minute to help and donate, many need us."

One of the special awards that were given was that of the British designer and singer Victoria Beckham, who received the Fashion Icon Award. In addition to show her support and to recognize the heroic work of firefighters who are trying to extinguished the fires that occur in California, she also highlighted the women's work.

"It's always about empowering women, making women feel the best, most beautiful and strong version of herself. With the Spice Girls it started as girl power. And now it's about empowering women through fashion," said the fashion star.

"I feel so honored to be receiving the first ever Fashion Icon Award at the E! People's Choice Awards. This year I am celebrating 10 years of my brand, and this is a wonderful way to mark that decade", shared Beckham on a press release prior to the event, according to E! Online.

The Kpop group BTS was the most awarded of the night with four prizes, followed by rapper Nicky Minaj who won two. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, the members of the South Korean idol group, were not present at the award ceremony.

Despite this, they thanked the support of their fans through a video. "We had a lot of fun in America this last month and we cannot wait to go back and see you guys. Greetings to the Army, thank you very much," was heard on the video.

Another of the great moments of the night was the delivery of the People's Champion Award to social justice activist Bryan Stevenson. In his speech, the also lawyer referred to justice and oppression in the United States, and left an empowering message of hope on how to end hate.

"To end hate, some of us are going to have to stand up when people say sit down. Some of us are going to have to speak when they tell us to be quiet. To end the hate, we have to embrace hope because hopelessness is the enemy of justice," he said.
