TCLAN only with Mexico?

On September 26, 2018, a day after the US intervention in the General Assembly, Trump surprised with the statements he gave at a press conference about his neighbor Mexico. According to Voz de America, the American president said he had rejected a meeting with Canadian President Justin Trudeau to discuss the tariff dispute unleashed by the negotiations of the TCLAN (North American Free Trade Agreement).

Paradoxically, the pressure now facing the Canadian minister was favored by the Central American country, because Mexico, days ago, yielded to Washington in several aspects that for Canadians were essential as the mechanism to resolve disputes between the three partners, according to the information provided by El Financiero.

Added to this, according to the Voice of America, the US president said (in this press conference) his intention to raise tariffs on all vehicles exported by Canada to its territory, thus increasing the chances that negotiations will only reach good port with Mexico.

On the other hand, not only Mexico was well referenced by Trump in the framework of the Assembly, but the praises were also addressed to Iván Duque, president of Colombia.

Proximity between the United States with Colombia

On September 23, the forum called "a global action on the world drug problem" was held, where the highest leader of the United States had a very active performance. One of Washington's concerns about South America is the excessive increase in illicit cocaine crops, especially in the coffee territory. However, this president had words of recognition for the new leader of Colombia, Ivan Duque. According to El Colombiano, these were the words of Donal Trump:

"Many nations in the world are acting, the new president Duque, of Colombia, had as a campaign proposal the fight against drugs; we want to work with your new government to eradicate coca production in your country; We all must collaborate to dismantle and end drug addiction "

But, these words are not the only manifestations of closeness between these two countries. Earlier this month, the White House had announced the visit of its president to the tricolor country to discuss "with the government of Ivan Duque opportunities to improve collaboration in security, anti-narcotics, and regional affairs" according to the newspaper El Tiempo. If the meeting was carried out, it would take place in December.

Venezuela: Military intervention?

On September 25, before the intervention of the United States before the plenary of the General Assembly, the North American president attacked the repressive regime of Venezuela. According to El País de España, these were the words of the New Yorker:

"All the options are on the table with respect to Venezuela, all of them, the strong and the less strong, all the options, and you know what I mean by strong."

Opening thus, the possibility of a military intervention in the country.

After these statements, Donald Trump made his speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations, an intervention that took the opportunity to talk about the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. According to this same European network, in his speech he highlighted how socialism had led one of the richest countries in the world to total bankruptcy. As it classified the situation of Venezuelans as a Human Tragedy.

However, as is the custom in this North American leader, he also opened the door for an eventual encounter with Nicolás Maduro in New York.

Macri and his good relationship with Donald Trump

The Assembly was inaugurated in Madison Avenue more exactly in the mythical Palace hotel (Manhattan) where the Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, had a warm greeting with his North American counterpart.

According to El Clarín, the president of the southern country was in one of the halls of the Palace Hotel when he met his counterpart, Donald Trump. The two statesmen greeted each other warmly with a handshake and exchanged a few words, however, the situation was not enough to hold a high-level meeting. On the other hand, Macri was also seen with the president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), following the agreement reached between the two parties, to launch an economic lifeline to the South American country.

Finally, although the meeting between these two presidents was short and without further statements, Mauricio Macri was one of the first presidents to be invited to the White House in the year of 2016, having just positioned his counterpart in Washington. In addition, the support of Trump towards Macri has been unquestionable, as the Clarín newspaper pointed out, there have been several statements of encouragement from the North American country towards its South American neighbor.

Any statement about Nicaragua?

According to the Nicaraguan newspaper El Nuevo Diario, the address of the United States president to the United Nations General Assembly was not directly addressed to the Central American country, but it did have a phrase that indirectly alludes to Daniel Ortega. According to this newspaper, the words of the high official were, "all the nations of the world must resist the socialism and the misery that it causes".
