The number of smart phones is growing quickly, and with them the market for apps is also multiplying. There are now over 1,000,000 apps available. Here are the top 5 apps in games and apps, as measured by number of downloads.

The number of smart phones is growing quickly, and with them the market for apps is also multiplying. There are now over 1,000,000 apps available. Here are the top 5 apps in games and apps, as measured by number of downloads.

Apps:

Facebook

It is no surprise that Facebook is the most downloaded app; it is also the most popular social media site. Facebook has 1.2 billion users; 874 million of those are mobile users.

 Facebook Messenger

This app coming in at number two isn’t very surprising since Facebook basically forces its users to download Messenger.

YouTube

With Google owns this app for video watching, sharing and enjoying. More than half of all YouTube views are from mobile devices.

 Instagram

…..And back to a Facebook-owned company, Instaggram ranks fourth in downloads. Instagram is an increasingly popular way to share photos; some people are Instagram celebrities and have started their careers this way.

 Skype

Skype is the fifth most downloaded app, with 500 million downloads. Connecting people with free calls all over the world, Skype does require users to pay for some features such as calling telephones. Microsoft owns Skype.

Released in 2012 by Supercell, a video game company based in Helsinki, Finland, Clash of Clans is a multiplayer game where players create a community, train troops and attack other players to earn rewards.

Candy Crush Saga

In this addictive game, player needs to match at least three candies together to achieve a variety of goals. In 2014, users spent over $1.33 billion on in-app purchases.

Puzzle and Dragons is also a matching game. The amount and type of matches determine which of the six monsters on the user’s team attack the enemy monsters, as well as the level of damage.

Game of War – Fire Age

A multiplayer online game, Game of War users need to collect resources to construct buildings, gain troops, and advance in the game. An in-game chat system encourages players to create alliances.

Monster Strike

Players battle monsters, collect monsters, alter monsters, and earn gold and other rewards to receive stronger monsters in this game. There are no matching puzzles in this game; instead players need to aim and fling their monsters around on a field, bouncing off of walls and enemies to cause damage.
