Here are 6 signs that you might be wasting your life but you don’t want to admit it
When you were a kid, did you want to grow up to be an astronaut, a singer or an engineer? If so, how’s that working out for you? Hopefully, it’s going great and you are living the life of your dreams. But for the rest of you who are not, here are 6 signs that you might be wasting your life but you don’t want to admit it:
1. Good enough” has become the new standard. You don’t try hard anymore. You don’t try new things anymore. You are merely content with the status quo. Being content with what you have is fine, but make sure you don’t confuse “being content” with “settling for less” because you are too scared/lazy/tired to go for what you want. Life is too short to play small. You don’t want to waste yours.
2. You surround yourself with pointless distractions: More than half of the activities and products in this country are specifically aimed at killing time, to get through one more day. Distractions are a sneaky and absurdly prevalent vice. Looking at your phone for the time can turn into an hour of reading celebrity facts in the blink of an eye. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so our time is precious and needs to be valued and well partitioned. There is a difference between wasting time and taking a break. Waste less time, take more breaks, and most of all pay attention to whatever you are doing. Be present.
3. You find yourself complaining a lot: I know people who are constantly overwhelmed with life, and they never cease to tell me. Are you one of those people? Do you complain about your job, your boss, your salary, your neighbors or your spouse? If you do, then you are doing nothing but exuding negative energy. Negativity doesn’t change things. It keeps you stuck. So change your thoughts and talk about what you appreciate about your life, not what you don’t like.
4. You often escape into a fantasy world. For a brief time, you get to leave your current existence and experience something else entirely different, but you should never replace living with mere fantasizing. Live your dreams instead. Do you even remember what they are? Are you following them now or are you merely living someone else’s dreams?
5. You never truly acknowledge your fears: Fear is a powerful force that prevails in ignorance. You can't ignore a concern and expect it to go away. Ignoring your dread gives that formation the free reign to grow and maximize its effects on your life and psyche. People don't acknowledge fear for many different reasons. They are afraid of the extent of their terror, that they won't be able to conquer it. They may not want to dent their pride by admitting they could be afraid of anything.
6. You don’t plan for your future: While it’s always great to live in the “now” and “be in the moment,” sometimes you need to look ahead to see where you want to go. If you don’t have a goal or a plan, then you are like a boat that is wandering aimlessly in the ocean hoping to end up somewhere good. But you can’t do that. You have to make a step-by-step guide to get where you want to go. Just like a GPS gets you to a destination, you need your own inner GPS to guide you.
