October Special: Haunted mansion movies

We are still in October and we are getting closer to Halloween . If you need something to see this month, we recommend you follow our October special, in which we recommend movies with different Halloween themes. This time we bring five haunted mansion movies that you cannot miss this month. Here they go.

The Conjuring (2013)

This film, which was a critical and box office success, tells the story of the Perron family, who have just moved into a mansion that is probably haunted . To solve this mystery, the family uses the services of the Warren couple, investigators and demonologists whose job it is to investigate paranormal events. This was the first of many other conjuring films and later inspired those about the Anabelle doll, a case that the Warren researchers also discussed. Without a doubt, this was perhaps more successful for reinventing the horror genre using the common places of this genre.

The Amytiville Horror (1979), (2005)

This movie already has several versions. This time we recommend the original, from 1979, and the last, from 2005. In both, the story is basically the same: a family (that's right, what a surprise) moves to Amytiville's mansion. They have gotten a good deal for the house, because in it a father murdered his entire family a year ago. You will see, of course, the father of the family  being controlled by the house or by what lives in it until he himself becomes the terror of his family.

The Shining (1980)

This is definitely a horror movie classic. Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 best seller was a before and after for many. However, it takes many of the topics that we have already seen in the other productions on this list: a family moves for a while to an old hotel and the father goes crazy and becomes the worst nightmare of his family. Perhaps what The Shining brings back is an aesthetic proposal away from the gloom in which horror films usually occur and rather colorful but equally scary.

Hereditary (2018)

While this is not exactly a movie about a haunted mansion, the terror does begin when the protagonist, played by Toni Collette, moves to the old house of her mother, who has just died. There she will begin to relive, through her daughter, repressed memories of her childhood that will make her see the legacy that her mother has left her, the lineage to which she belongs. It's the latest on our list and it's just as good as the rest.

The orphanage (2007)

In his directorial debut, the Spanish JA Bayona tells the story of a woman who decides to return to the orphanage where she grew up to turn it into a care center for children with differentiated abilities. But, like Hereditary, going back to childhood can always be terrifying. Here, the protagonist will meet ghosts from her past while paranormal events take place in the house where she grew up and with which she will have to face.
