2020 was not a typical year for cinema, but neither was it for superheroes. Due to the pandemic, last year the Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered the "first year" without a film or television premiere since 2009 , when the concept of the UCM itself had not yet been imagined, but they were "separate films."

We have seen that, years later, the franchise is a real success. For example, to date more than 23,000 million dollars have been raised with his 23 films , which shows the good reception it has in the community, which is always waiting for news of upcoming announcements and new stories to continue the saga. Well, they already have them.

After Avengers: Endgame, which was a before and after at the end of the first major arc of the franchise, Marvel wanted to maintain popularity and "go for it all" to confirm the next films of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe , which will be a continuation, but also a "new face" for the saga . Let's see what we have.

Marvel Phase 4

Since the launch of the Disney Plus streaming platform, Marvel explained that all original productions will be part of the UCM. It is to say , the series released (such as WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Loki) will also explain the narrative continuity of the franchise .

In any case, the "highlight" of the superhero saga will always be the movies, so after having announced the release schedule for their new series and productions, they wanted to make it clear what we can expect from face to this new Phase 4 with respect to the cinematographic plane .

The first thing that was confirmed is something we all look forward to: the premiere of Black Widow, scheduled for July 9, 2021 . This film will also be quite atypical, since it tells us the story of the character of Scarlett Johansson , in a prequel that, a priori, would not have to "continue the story", since her character died in the events of Avengers: Endgame.

From there, the news begins to appear. For example, in Marvel they showed the initial images of Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings , which will become the first production of the franchise in Asia, with protagonists who will also be from East Asia. It is expected to be a film with a strong martial art presence.

Then Eternals appears: another of the most anticipated -and possibly the most important of this new phase- , where fans went crazy to see artists like Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harington or Millie Bobby Brown, who they will be part of this super-cast. Ah! In addition, this film will be directed by Chloé Zhao, who made the current Best Film of the Oscars 2021, Nomadland.

Later, images corresponding to the highly anticipated third film of Spider-Man (with confirmed title: No Way Home), Doctor Strange in the Multriverse of Madness (directed by Sam Raimi) or Thor: Love and Thunder (where the award-winning Taika Waititi will return to occupy the director's chair) , all with their corresponding release dates.

From that moment, some news and surprises emerge. First of all, the sequel to Black Panther, which will be called Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . Recall that the main actor, Chadwick Boseman, passed away last year, which is why it is expected to see what will happen with his role in the face of the continuation of the story.

Later, something that many did not understand at first. When watching the series of announcements, it was striking not to meet Captain Marvel 2, the long-awaited sequel to the most powerful heroine in the MCU. Well, that's because its name changed: it will now be called The Marvels , which will be a second part, albeit with a team of heroines. Due to the influence of the series, Monica Rambeau (present at WandaVision) will appear and there will be Ms Marvel, who we will meet in the future Disney Plus series.

After that, the dates of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 were made official, another of the most anticipated for the future . About the end, the surprise: it was confirmed that The Fantastic Four, one of the most iconic superheroes of the entire franchise, will also be part of Phase 4 of the UCM , although without a release date or information about the title or the protagonists of this new delivery. Surely, they will be in charge of closing this phase, but it is presumed that they will have a huge future ahead of them.

So, the release schedule is as follows:

  • Black Widow: July 9, 2021
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: September 3, 2021
  • Eternals: November 5, 2021
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home: December 22, 2021
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: March 25, 2022
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: May 6, 2022
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – July 8, 2022
  • The Marvels: November 11, 2022
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: February 17, 2023
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 3: May 5, 2023
  • Fantastic Four: date to be announced

We hope you enjoyed all of this information from Phase 4 of the MCU!
