We cannot continue to ignore the messages that the earth sends us!

Oceans are filled with waste and becoming more acidic, air pollution levels are high and impacting human health, and temperatures are causing wildfires, floods, and freezes. Earth urgently asks us to take measures to reverse this trend before it's too late.

Therefore, on Earth Day observed every April 22, organizations like the UN remind citizens and governments of the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030 and to zero by 2050. This task requires everyone's participation.

"Governments and companies need to take bold, rapid, and far-reaching measures," is the UN's call for action, seeking to accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions.

Human activity has disrupted the environmental balance of the planet, and biodiversity is further disrupted by crimes such as deforestation, land-use change, intensive agriculture, livestock production, and wildlife trade.

Stopping or reducing this destruction will depend on the speed with which we act in restoring affected ecosystems. This will also reduce poverty, mitigate climate change, and prevent mass extinction.

According to the UN, one million species are on the path to extinction on the planet. The UN promotes the concept of "Harmony with Nature," a global movement aimed at generating a change towards a sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet.

It's time to act

It's time to act from our own spaces: at home, school, university, work, and with our community. Any environment is good for education, setting an example, and encouraging others to take actions that help restore balance to nature. For example, households emit nearly two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions. Although the sectors that cause the most damage are energy, food, and transport, each with 20% of lifestyle emissions. Therefore, it's up to us to make changes from the electricity we use to the food we eat and the way we travel or move in our daily lives.

Experts advise reviewing whether it's necessary to move within the city or if it can be done remotely, avoiding food waste, using the bicycle more, eating more vegetables, reusing, repairing, and recycling, saving more energy through the adoption of more efficient and sustainable forms such as that generated by solar panels or wind, as well as considering the possibility of switching from a combustion car to an electric one.

The AWorld app for the "Act Now" campaign offers a way to register your habits and adopt actions to reduce your carbon footprint or save water or energy.

You can also participate in educational workshops and group challenges, and receive tips for living more sustainably. In this way, you can set an example and tell the world that you are willing to make peace with nature.
