The European Union closes its borders
On March 16 it was announced that all countries within the European Union closed their borders, only allowing "non-essential travel".

The Champions League, Premier League and La Europa League have suspended all their games.
The DOW Jones records its worst drop in history
The S&P 500 fell by 12%
The Dow Jones index closed at 2,999 points, 12.9% down.
