Jamaica Wants to Host a Reggae Woodstock

_I called the (representatives) at Woodstock and ask them to consider having a reggae Woodstock in Jamaica. A member is coming down shortly to have a meeting,_ the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment_s Damion Crawford said.

Crawford said that if the talks succeed, the ministry will seek help from the private sector in defraying the costs.

_Government is not a promoter and entertainment needs people who are willing to take the risk,_ he said.

The Woodstock festival was celebrated in 1969 in Bethel, New York, bringing together more than 500,000 people for what came to be seen in retrospect as the end of the hippie era.

Performers included iconic artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana and The Who.

More than four decades later, Woodstock retains the aura of something unique, despite failed attempts, both in the United States and abroad, to recreate the atmosphere of Aug. 15-17, 1969.
