Leer en español: Acaba el caso Weinstein y otras noticias de la semana

This week the case of Harvey Weinstein was finally resolved. The case a few years ago would lead to the #MeToo movement, which denounced abuse of power and gender violence in the world of entertainment. This week, after quite some time since the first accusations, the jury has given its verdict. Here we tell you about this and four other fundamental news of the week in the world of entertainment.

Harvey Weinstein is found guilty of two charges

This is perhaps the most relevant news in the entertainment world, as it is the most anticipated. This Monday, February 24, after approximately 30 hours of deliberation by the jury, Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of two of the five charges he faced for multiple accusations of abuse of power and sexual misconduct. The charges for which he was convicted are those of first-degree criminal sexual acts and third-degree rape.

He was, however, declared innocent on charges of sexual assault, the most serious of the five, and rape in the first degree. According to Vulture magazine, the ex-producer was stoically facing the jury's statement. He was then taken into custody while waiting for his sentence to be handed down by a judge in the state of New York on March 11. He will face a sentence of at least 5 years in jail or a maximum of 29. Weinstein will then attend a trial in the state of California.

Report of the American Guild of Music Artists on Placido Domingo is published

Unfortunately, this second piece of news also refers to the abuse of power and sexual violence in the entertainment world. On Monday, February 24, the same day that Harvey Weinstein pleaded guilty, the American artists' union published a report in which they said that Plácido Domingo, 79, and one of the greatest representatives of the opera in today's world had several inappropriate sexual behaviors during the eighties. This report is based on the 20 different accusations that the singer has since 2018 about his conduct at that time. Since then, the report that was published Monday began.

According to Varity, a version of this song was leaked last month but it didn't have great reception among fans, who are waiting for the official version of the singer. It is likely that after the solemn tone of A Star Is Born, the singer returns to her accelerated and enthusiastic pop sound that her followers love so much.

The movie Thesis will become a series

It was announced this week that the masterpiece by the famous Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar will be turned into a series. The Federation Entertainment producer acquired the rights to the film, which is about young people who are fascinated by snuff movies and venture deep into the world of this dark film genre.
